The focus has changed from outsourcing to "do it yourself". This is a challenging task for the IT department due to lack of investment since we where about to outsource servers and storage.
Equipment and processes hadn't been improved or replaced for a period of two years.
-I've expanded an c2d8 EVA 8000 to an c2d12 and an c2d3 EVA4000 to an c2d4 to cope with growth.
-Upgraded the brocade switches from a mixture of firmware levels to v5.3.1a and v6.1.0a (but uniform within a fabric) depending on the models used.
-Replaced old 2800 switches with new brocade 5000 models and later expanded the SAN with four 4900 models.
-In a later stage transformed the, still, cascaded fabric to a custom configuration which can be described as a ring fabric with a core.
-In sync with the expanding SAN an DMX4-950 was purchased and connected for the purpose of consolidating two DMX800 (on there own SAN islands) to the new DMX4, this was still an WIP when I left.
-Centralized zone management by means of ECC.
-Single Server installation of EMC Control Center 6 with SE 6.5 MRLK on new hardware to replace the ECC 5.2 environment on outdated hardware
-Transfered archived data to new media
-Writing reports on how to increase availability and reduce risks
-Retired the MA8000 storage array (used by Novell servers)
-Installed and configured an MSL8096 LTO4 library
-Installed and configured an VLS6636 virtual tape library
-Advised on dm-multipath and LVM using RHEL
-Created detailed SAN drawings (Visio)
-Tested and documented an procedure to do an online switch of HPUX systems the the consolidated SAN while retaining there data on the older DMX-es

November 2008 — November 2008 (1 month)
One day assignment troubleshooting the backup environment and giving pointers and advice. Main goal get the jobs running again. To accomplish that the technical design was partly scraped. In the end minor modification where needed to get the jobs running.
Although there wasn't enough time to run the biggest job ther's enough confidence restored to go live this weekend.
Software used Dataprotector 6.0 using object copy to de-stage the VLS to MSL
Gear used:
C-class Blades, Brocade 4012 switches, VLS6636 and MSL4048.
Technique used:

Responsible (with 3 other colleague's) for the Storage environments (50 + Tb).All environments where standardized around the HP EVA (8 in total ranging from 3000 to 8000 and including data replication) with the odd MSA array. Multiple HP EML109e and MSL line libraries and several VLS6105 systems together with HP Dataprotector as backup solution.
For connectivity the HP (B line/Brocade) Storageworks switches with powerpack licenses (trunking, fabric watch etc) where used.
-Made preparations in the new SAN to accept the current Exchange environment scheduled to be physically moved
-Migrated (SAN related) the Exchange storage array and systems to the new SAN
-Started on Licence, Patch and Document management
Gear used:
EVA3000/4000/6000/8000, Brocade 4100 SAN switches, EML109e, VLS6105
